Stephenson honored with Order of Australia Medal

February 2, 2018

The Order of Australia is an order of chivalry established on February 14, 1975 by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia, to recognize Australian citizens and other persons for achievement or meritorious service.

Legends Hall of Fame member Jan Stephenson, an Australian native, has been awarded the Order of Australia Medal for her contributions to the game of golf and her fund-raising efforts for non-profit organizations around the world.

"It’s hard to paraphrase what Jan has meant to golf in not only Australia, but around the world, with all the effort she has put into developing young golfers and just generally better people through her charitable foundations," said Golf Australia Chief Executive Stephen Pitt.

Stephenson has won many accolades including some of golf’s highest honors in her long career. But being the recipient of an Order of Australia is “probably the most important."

"It means so much to me," said Stephenson, a three-time Legends Tour champion who has 40 professional wins to her credit, including 16 on the LPGA Tour with three major championship titles. Stephenson also sank the winning putt for the World Team in The Legends Tour's 2013 ISPS Handa Cup, an international team competition that has been otherwise dominated by the Americans since its inception.

Stephenson remains active on The Legends Tour while focusing on Crossroads Foundation in support of military veterans and wounded first responders. Learn more about Stephenson.
