(BOSTON – June 28, 2017) - The Legends Tour announced today that Nancy Lopez, Michelle McGann, Pat Bradley, Donna Caponi and more former LPGA Tour stars will appear in the BJ’s Charity Championship presented by P&G on Friday, September 8 at The Ridge Club in Sandwich, Mass. Played for the first time on Cape Cod, this two-person team event will showcase the talents of 24 LPGA Legends and benefit BJ’s Charitable Foundation.
The BJ’s Charity Championship presented by P&G will be contested the day after BJ’s annual Pro-Am tournament, a Legends Tour event held in Plymouth, MA which has raised $20 million over the years. The 18-hole tournament will include 9 holes of best ball and 9 holes of scramble play to determine the champions.
“We’re excited to welcome The Legends Tour to Cape Cod for the BJ’s Charity Championship, and are looking forward to offering a day of fun, competitive play between LPGA Legends for our Members and golf fans to enjoy,” said Kirk Saville, executive director of the BJ’s Charitable Foundation. “We’re proud to continue our partnership with The Legends Tour, and are grateful for their ongoing support of the BJ’s Charitable Foundation.”
“It will be a wonderful day for area golf fans, especially BJ’s Members,” added Jane Blalock, 27-time LPGA Tour champion and CEO of The Legends Tour. “We are thrilled to partner with BJ’s Wholesale Club to showcase some of the greatest names in the history of women’s golf right here on the Cape.”
Blalock, a long-time member of The Ridge Club, will also compete in the event, partnering with Allison Finney, a past champion and 20-year veteran of the LPGA Tour.
The pairing to watch will be 48-time LPGA Tour champion and Hall of Famer Nancy Lopez who will team up with 7-time LPGA Tour star and fan favorite Michelle McGann. Other match-ups include European Solheim Cup Team Captain and past U.S. Open Champion Liselotte Neumann with Peruvian Alicia Dibos, a two-time Legends Tour champion.
Rosie Jones, a 13-time LPGA Tour champion and the leader in Legends Tour tournament wins with seven will pair with long ball hitter Michele Redman, an LPGA Tour champion who’s won twice on The Legends Tour and coaches the University of Minnesota golf teams.
The full roster of competitors has combined for hundreds of wins on the LPGA Tour and includes four LPGA and World Golf Hall of Fame members: Nancy Lopez, Donna Caponi, Pat Bradley and Hollis Stacy.
“We have some creative pairings planned that should make this a very tight and exciting competition,” said Blalock. “We should see lots of birdies out there.”
The Legends Tour, official senior tour of the LPGA, prides itself on limited roping, fan-friendly golf action and plenty of autographs and photo ops following play.
Admission to the tournament will be free. Fans are encouraged to bring chairs. Public concessions, restrooms and a small sampling and charity information area will be available.
Established in 1989, The Ridge Club is a premier private golf country club located in the oldest town on Cape Cod and was voted Best Private Club in 2014 by Cape Cod Magazine.
