Seven Legends share lead in Chico's Patty Berg Memorial

April 16, 2016

FORT MYERS, Fla., April 16, 2016 – Seven Legends Tour players share the first-round lead of the Chico’s Patty Berg Memorial at even-par 72 after a day of steady winds blowing between 15-20 mph. It was a round in which par was a solid score and birdies were a bonus. And it was a day in which tournament leaders Helen Alfredsson, Jane Crafter, Lisa Grimes, Christa Johnson, Lorie Kane, Barb Mucha and Kris Tschetter had to fight for fairways and pray for putts at Cypress Lake Country Club.

“The wind made it tough,” admitted Tschetter, who recorded six bogeys, six pars and six birdies in her round. “You kind of stood there with two clubs, almost wishing there was one club in between.”

Kane said the wind made it “fun and challenging,” but admitted she had more trouble on the putting surface. “When I was putting downwind and down grain, the putts got away from me,” said Kane, who birdied three holes in a five-hole stretch on the back nine. “Tomorrow, I just need to bear down.”

Liselotte Neumann and Rosie Jones finished strong to move to 1-over 73, one shot off the lead. Neumann birdied No. 18, while Jones birdied the 17th hole to move into challenging position heading into Sunday’s final round.

“My putter didn’t necessarily let me down today, but it was hard to get the ball to go in,” said Jones, who sunk a 12-foot putt on No. 17 for her late birdie.

Sweden’s Madelene Sagstrom maintained her lead in the Symetra Tour portion of the event, in which members of The Legends Tour play their own 36-hole event alongside members of the Symetra Tour. The simultaneous events will conclude with Sunday’s final round.

Sagstrom played today’s round alongside The Legends Tour’s Laurie Rinker, winner of the 2015 tournament. The Swede posted a round of 3-under 69 to move to 12-under 204.

“It was different and so much fun to play today’s round with Laurie,” said Sagstrom, who capped off her three-shot lead in the Symetra Tour event with a tap-in birdie on the final hole.
Sunday’s final round of The Legends Tour and Symetra Tour events will start at 7:41 a.m., with free admission throughout the day.
