Qualifiers Hope For Two Spots In Walgreens Charity Classic

March 3, 2016

SUN CITY WEST, Ariz., March 1, 2016 – Two players with Arizona ties hope to punch their tickets into this week’s Walgreens Charity Classic at Thursday’s qualifying tournament.

The qualifier will start at 8 a.m. Thursday at Grandview Golf Course and will award the two players with the lowest scores a chance to kick off The Legends Tour’s 2016 season.
Phoenix resident Dina Ammaccapane, sister of Legends Tour member Danielle Ammaccapane, along with Karen Davies, a native of Wales and resident of Scottsdale, will be among those competing for starting positions in the event, set for Friday March 4 through Sunday, March 6.

Arizona residents already in the tournament field of 50 Legends of the LPGA (age 45 and over) include: LPGA Hall of Famer Betsy King, Jane Crafter, Shelley Hamlin, Christa Johnson, Cindy Rarick, Anne Marie Palli, Martha Nause, Jenny Lidback, Lisa Grimes and Lori Atsedes.

“We are so excited to be back in Sun City West for the fifth year of the Walgreens Charity Classic,” said Jane Blalock, CEO of The Legends Tour and 27-time LPGA Tour champion. “The fans are enthusiastic and we feed off their energy at Grandview. We love it here and can’t wait to get on the tee.”

Once again, the 36-hole event will be the tour’s season-opening tournament, with players competing for a purse of $250,000. In addition, the event will feature a Super Legends Division (age 63 and over) competing for a separate purse.

The tournament pro-am will be held Friday, starting at 8:30 a.m. Clubhouse gates will open at 8 a.m. each day, with tournament rounds starting at 9 a.m.

Pairings for Saturday’s opening round of competition will be announced late Thursday afternoon.

Tickets are on sale now for $10 at participating Phoenix-area Walgreens stores with a savings of $5 per ticket off the gate price on tournament days. Tickets at the gate will be $15 per adult each day for the Saturday and Sunday tournament rounds.

Kids 13 and under, as well as all active military personnel with IDs, get in free. Tickets include free public parking at the R.H. Johnson Social Hall, as well as complimentary shuttle service to the tournament admission gate.

The first 75 fans each day will receive a Legends Tour-branded bag. In addition, free sunscreen will be available while supplies last.

Fans may also access the Walgreens Healthy Living Expo, a tented area adjacent to the clubhouse showcasing local Walgreens stores, healthy initiatives and free health screenings. Free vendor samples and local business representatives sharing information will also be available at the expo.

All ticket proceeds will support official charity partners the American Diabetes Association and Aunt Rita’s Foundation. Representatives from both charities will be on site at the expo to answer questions or to accept additional donations.
