Field Set for Walgreens Charity Championship

October 29, 2015

The field is set as The Legends Tour prepares to head to South Florida next week for the second annual Walgreens Charity Championship presented by The Seagate Country Club. The professional tournament kicks off on Friday, November 6, in Delray Beach. A field of 50 LPGA Legends and two senior women amateur champions will compete in the championship. The pros will compete for a purse of $250,000.

“Last year’s tournament came down to some of the tour’s biggest names, with Meg Mallon holding off Juli Inkster, Pat Hurst, Beth Daniel and Rosie Jones for the win,” said Legends Tour CEO Jane Blalock. “They are back this year, along with numerous Hall of Famers and former LPGA Tour champions.”

Eight LPGA and World Golf Hall of Famers have committed to play, featuring Pat Bradley, Donna Caponi, JoAnne Carner, Beth Daniel, Laura Davies, Juli Inkster, Patty Sheehan and Hollis Stacy. Mallon, a Delray Beach resident and 18-time LPGA Tour champion, hopes to defend her title on the tight golf course where she used to practice for the U.S. Women’s Open – a major championship she has won twice.

In addition, Great Britain’s Dame Laura Davies will be making her inaugural appearance at the championship. Added Blalock, “We are thrilled to have her in the mix.”

The two amateurs in the event will include local amateur Sue Cohn of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., who reached the semifinals of last month’s 2015 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship and Tama Caldabaugh of Ponte Vedra, Fla., who also was a semi-finalist in the United States Golf Association championship.

Saturday’s final round will be followed by a brief trophy ceremony and charity check presentation. National recording artist, Little River Band, will appear immediately following the awards ceremony on a stage adjacent to the Seagate clubhouse.

Tickets are on sale in area Walgreens stores for $10 per day – a $5 savings off tournament-day pricing at the gate. Ticket proceeds support the Dan Marino Foundation, Achievement Centers for Children and Families, and Bethesda Hospital Foundation.

Kids 13 and under and active military personnel with ID get in free. The Little River Band concert is included in Saturday’s tournament admission.

Gates open at 7:30 a.m. both days, with tee times starting at 8 a.m. in each round.

** Attention: Media credentials will be available in the tournament office, starting Monday, Nov. 2 through Saturday, Nov. 7. Please contact Sue Fracker in advance to schedule credential pick-up. A parking pass is required for clubhouse parking on tournament days.
