This year’s Legends Championship presented by Old National Bank will bring a solid field of veteran LPGA talent to Indiana Aug. 28-30, including six members of the LPGA and World Golf Halls of Fame. Highlighting that group will be recently honored Dame Laura Davies of Great Britain, who was inducted in July into the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Andrews, Scotland. Davies owns 82 professional wins worldwide, including one win on The Legends Tour and 20 LPGA Tour titles.
In her last appearance at the 2013 Legends Championship, Davies finished fourth. The Englishwoman won her Legends Tour debut at the 2013 Legends Tour Open in Innisbrook, Fla. Her tournament start at this year’s Legends Championship will be Davies’ fifth Legends Tour event.
“I am excited to return to French Lick for The Legends Championship,” said the long-hitting Davies. “The Pete Dye Course is very, very, very tough."
LPGA Hall of Famer Juli Inkster will make her first appearance in The Legends Championship. Inkster is squeezing in a Legends Tour tournament before she heads to Germany in September to serve as captain of the 2015 U.S. Solheim Cup Team.
The Californian is also in her first season as a TV commentator for Fox Sports. She has 31 LPGA Tour wins, including seven major championships.
“This will be the first time Juli Inkster and Laura Davies appear together in a Legends Tour stroke-play event and it happens to be in our annual major championship,” said Jane Blalock, Legends Tour CEO. “This championship will feature one of our strongest fields yet and will certainly be a thrill to watch.”
The Legends Tour’s only major championship will return to the Pete Dye Course at French Lick Resort in Indiana, which hosted the 2015 Senior PGA Championship earlier this year. The third annual event will feature 36 holes of stroke-play competition.
A field of 56 Legends of the LPGA will compete for a purse of $300,000 at this year’s championship. A special event will be held for eight “Super LPGA Legends” (age 63 and over), who will compete for a separate purse. The Legends Tour is the official senior tour of the LPGA.
Florida’s Laurie Rinker will return to defend her championship title. Sherri Steinhauer, runner-up at the 2014 championship, will miss this year's event due to injury.
The event’s pro-am tournament, presented by Oxford Financial Group, will be held on Aug. 28, followed by the two championship rounds. All tournament proceeds will benefit Riley’s Children’s Foundation.
