March 4, 2015

SUN CITY WEST, Ariz. Mar. 3, 2015 – Tournament organizers hope this week’s weather forecast of sunshine and 80-degree temperatures will invite record attendance at the LPGA Legends Tour’s event in Arizona. The 4th annual Walgreens Charity Championship will bring 10 LPGA and World Golf Hall of Fame members to town March 6-8, for the LPGA Legends Tour’s season-opening event. Tickets are on sale at a discounted rate of $10 per adult each day at all area Walgreens stores at $5 off the gate price. Kids 17-under, as well as active military with an ID, will be admitted free of charge.

The 36-hole, stroke-play tournament returns to Grandview Golf Course, where the field of 50 LPGA Legends will compete for a purse of $250,000.

The Walgreens Charity Championship opens with Friday’s pro-am, starting at 9:30 a.m. Admission into the pro-am is free, but donations to the event’s official charities are encouraged. All contributions will support the Phoenix Children’s Hospital and the American Diabetes Association.

Professional tournament tee times start at 9 a.m., on both Saturday and Sunday. An awards ceremony will immediately follow Sunday’s final round. Hall of Famers Amy Alcott, Pat Bradley, Donna Caponi, JoAnne Carner, Sandra Hayne, Juli Inkster, Betsy King, Nancy Lopez, Patty Sheehan and Hollis Stacy will headline the field. The Legends Tour is the LPGA’s official senior tour for players 45 and over.

The event’s 2014 champion, Liselotte Neumann of Sweden, will return to defend her title. Neumann is a 13-time LPGA Tour winner, including a win at the LPGA’s 1998 Standard Register PING tournament in Phoenix. Players in the event with Arizona ties include Danielle Ammaccapane, Lori Atsedes, Jane Crafter, Amy Fruwirth, Christa Johnson, Betsy King, Anne Marie Palli, Cindy Rarick, Tina Tombs and Sherri Turner. One final player in the tournament field will be determined at a local qualifying event on Thursday. That event will start at 8 a.m., at Grandview Golf Course, and will award a tournament spot to the player recording the lowest score.

Public parking for this week’s event is free at a lot located at 19803 N.R.H. Johnson Boulevard, Sun City West, Ariz., 85375. Complimentary shuttle service to the main entrance of Grandview Golf Course will be provided to and from the parking lot.
