The Legends Tour Announces 2020 Schedule

LPGA Hall of Famer Juli Inkster will defend at the 2019 Suquamish Clearwater Legends Cup in Kingston, Wash. at White Horse Golf Club in the season opener on May 29-30.

TAMPA, Fla., Feb. 20, 2020 – Now in its 20th season, The Legends Tour, official senior tour of the LPGA, announces its 2020 schedule. This year’s schedule will include 11 events with many of its members once again competing in two senior women’s major championships – the U.S. Senior Women’s Open and the Senior LPGA Championship.

The tour’s 2020 schedule is a combination of familiar stops and new opportunities as veteran LPGA players age 45+ crisscross the country from the Pacific Northwest to New England’s Cape Cod, competing in seven states.

“We are excited to add four new events to the schedule this season,” said Jane Geddes, CEO of The Legends Tour. “In addition to partnering with the Connecticut Golf Association for the Connecticut Women’s Open, the tour will host inaugural events in the Minneapolis Area, in Springfield, Va., and at Bethpage State Park in Long Island, N.Y.”

The Legends Tour will open 2020 with a return to the greater Seattle area for the 3rd annual Suquamish Clearwater Legends Cup presented by Boeing. Thirty-two Legends Tour players and four top senior women amateurs from the area will appear in this 36-hole tournament played at White Horse Golf Club in Kingston, Wash. LPGA and World Golf Hall of Famer Juli Inkster will return to Washington to defend on May 29-30.

Played in North Carolina last year, the United States Golf Association’s U.S. Senior Women’s Open will move to Connecticut for the third annual national championship. The 2020 event will be hosted July 9-12, at Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield. Legends Tour member and seven-time LPGA Tour champion Helen Alfredsson of Sweden won the 2019 championship.

Legends players will have an opportunity to preview this senior major’s track in a new event on the schedule, the Connecticut Women’s Open, which will be staged at Brooklawn a month earlier, June 16-17. Another inaugural event, the Brooklawn Pro-Am, will follow on June 18.

The second senior major championship of the season, the Senior LPGA Championship presented by Old National Bank, will be held at the Pete Dye Golf Course at French Lick Resort in French Lick, Ind. Now in its fourth year, this three-day contest is set for July 30 – August 1. Alfredsson completed the “senior slam” last year, following her USGA title with a win in French Lick and hopes to defend on the Pete Dye Course later this summer.

“Honoring players of this era and providing opportunities for those players to compete on iconic national stages has been a goal for many,” said Geddes. “We are extremely grateful for the support that women’s senior golf has received from both the USGA and LPGA in making major championship golf a reality at this point in our players’ careers. We truly believe that the best is yet to come.”

For the first time in its history, the Legends Tour will appear in the Minneapolis area for a 36-hole competition and 18-hole pro-am title-sponsored by Land O’Lakes. Four-time Legends Tour champion and Minnesota native Michele Redman, also a two-time LPGA Tour winner, is set to appear along with more than 40 of her LPGA Legends peers. The Meadows at Mystic Lake in Prior Lake, Minn., will host that event Aug. 6-8.

The fourth annual BJ’s Charity Championship will return to New England’s Cape Cod area on September 11, at The Ridge Club in Sandwich, Mass. Twenty-four Legends of the LPGA will compete as two-player teams with defending champs Redman and Rosie Jones, an eight-time Legends Tour champion, hoping to repeat.

Rounding out the tour schedule through the end of September, the Legends will appear in Nantucket, Mass., for the fourth consecutive year and then will visit two new venues – Bethpage State Park Golf Course in Farmingdale, N.Y., and Springfield Golf & Country Club in West Springfield, Va. Details for these events will be announced in the coming weeks.

“We are appreciative of the continued support from our long-standing tour sponsors and look forward to welcoming our new sponsors to the Legends family later this year,” said Geddes.

Since its inception in 2000, The Legends Tour has raised nearly $24 million for charity partners and plans to continue that outreach in 2020.
