Michele Redman picked up her second
win on The Legends Tour with a two-shot victory over runner-up
Lorie Kane at the
2nd annual Walgreens Charity Classic.
Redman opened the tournament with a 71 on the par 72 Grandview Golf
Course but came out swinging on final round Sunday to fire one of
only two rounds in the 60's, a bogie-free 68.
"The conditions were really
tough," observed Redman, also a two-time champion on the LPGA Tour,
"and it was fun to challenge myself." Winds gusted up to 40 mph and
the temperature stayed in the 50's on a difficult course with tricky
greens. "I've always liked playing in the wind," said Redman who
accepted the $30,000 winner's check and the champion's trophy on 18
green following play. "When you're striking the ball well that's
when you want to play - when it's windy," she added.
Kane shot 69 to finish solo
second.
Laurie Rinker secured third with a
1 under par finish. Local qualifier Lisa Grimes shot even par to
land in the top five while
Danielle Ammaccapane's first
appearance on The Legends Tour found her in the top ten. Over 5,000
fans came out to watch the Legends on the weekend and $40,000 was
raised for Phoenix Children's Hospital.
