Commits to Play in BJ’s Charity Championship
QUINCY,
Mass. (July 7, 2008)
– World Golf and LPGA Tour Hall of Famer Nancy Lopez, one of the
most charismatic and distinguished players in the history of women’s
golf, has committed to play in the fourth annual BJ’s Charity
Championship presented by OLAY Aug. 2-3 at Granite Links Golf Club
in Quincy, Mass.
Lopez, who ranks seventh in
LPGA Tour history with 48 career victories, will team with Val
Skinner for the 36-hole team tournament. The duo also teamed
together for the 2006 BJ’s Charity Championship, at which they tied
for 17th in Lopez’s only other appearance.
“I’m thrilled to play in the
BJ’s Charity Championship again,” Lopez said. “The team format is so
much fun for players and fans, and the tournament has done a
tremendous job supporting community organizations.”
Other players who have
committed to play in the 2008 BJ’s Charity Championship include Hall
of Famer JoAnne Carner, who will team with Judy Dickinson; Legends
Tour president Jane Blalock, who will team with Lori West; 2006
runner-ups Sherri Turner and Cindy Figg-Currier; and 2007 runner-ups
Debbie Massey and Allison Finney.
Lopez will be seeking her
first title on The Legends Tour. Her best finish came in 2004, when
she tied for second at the Hy-Vee Classic in Johnston, Iowa.
Lopez’s illustrious career
includes three major championships and a rookie year (1978) that
included nine tournament titles. Lopez also captained the U.S. team
to a three-point victory at the 2005 Solheim Cup.

Club, Inc., the BJ’s Charity Championship is a 36-hole event
featuring members of The Legends Tour, the official Legends Tour of
the LPGA. The event consists of a pro-am on Aug. 1 followed by a
two-day tournament Aug. 2-3 with 28 two-player teams competing for a
$500,000 purse.
Single-day tickets are
